Whitney Leaming is a Senior Producer and documentary filmmaker at The Washington Post, where she leads the strategy and production of short-form documentaries, immersive storytelling projects and national breaking news. She guides teams through fast-moving news moments with a focus on clarity, accuracy and strong editorial judgment.
A key part of her role is helping The Post reach younger audiences. She turns audience insights into action — developing immersive on-platform experiences and off-platform series that expand reach, build trust and meet evolving expectations of digital news consumers.
Her leadership is grounded in more than 15 years of field reporting. Since joining The Post in 2013, she has covered the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Ebola and COVID-19 outbreaks, civil unrest across the United States, both impeachment trials of former President Donald Trump and the January 6 attack on the Capitol. Her reporting on life in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria was shown in Congress during debates over humanitarian aid.
Whitney is a five-time Emmy nominee, a three-time Edward R. Murrow Award winner and a member of three Pulitzer Prize–winning teams. She’s driven by a commitment to innovative storytelling, collaborative leadership and building teams that deliver journalism that matters.
